Community Gardens

Community and home gardens give residents an opportunity to grow vegetables for themselves or local charities. Though we’ve provided contact information below for some local community gardens, there are too many to list here. Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo, a nonprofit, can help you find one in your neighborhood.

Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo

This nonprofit works with block clubs, the City of Buffalo and other local organizations to support dozens of community gardens. In some gardens, low-income residents including refugees and retirees grow food for themselves and their families. Volunteers maintain other gardens to beautify vacant lots and improve quality of life in the city.

Buffalo Reuse

This nonprofit’s Green Spaces Program transforms vacant lots into urban gardens. Food from these gardens goes to volunteers, neighbors, food banks and even passersby. Buffalo ReUse offers opportunities to get involved in edible landscaping, composting, seed and plant swaps and more.

Growing Green food is available at places including a seasonal farm stand at 389 Massachusetts Ave. in Buffalo and a Mobile Market that travels to community sites.
