Heart of the City Neighborhoods, a non-profit residential development company has developed a program that provides housing choice within the financial reach of the residents of Buffalo’s Lower West Side. Our approach to neighborhood revitalization and preservation is simple: we find the resources to acquire vacant properties; we rehab them and then resell to income-qualified first time homebuyers all while working with the community to assist in their basic housing needs. This program of taking a grim situation of  rehabbing 100 year old Victorians in at risk communities and bringing life back into them, benefits the local economy in at least two ways. First, it provides housing near to jobs thus benefiting those looking for employees. Second, the construction/rehabilitation provides work to local trade’s people and the subsequent furnishing of the home can provide further stimulus to the local economy.
