Artisan, 464, Sportsmen's among IndieSound @ Black Rock VenuesSeptember 17, 2012
The second annual IndieSound festival will take over Amherst Street on Saturday, September 29th, with free musical performances in and around over a dozen local independent shops, restaurants, bars and businesses on Amherst Street in Black Rock.
Performances for IndieSound @ Black Rock will run from noon to 5pm, including memorable local acts Black Rock Zydeco, Zak Ward, The Screaming Jeans, Roger Bryan & The Orphans, Sonny Baker, The Larkin Plan, Mikel Doktor, Steve Woolsey, Dee Adams, Geno McManus, Jim Whitford & John Martz and Andrew J. Reimers.
The festival will span from Artisan Kitchens & Baths at 200 Amherst Street all the way to Joe's Service Center, on the corner of Amherst Street and Elmwood Avenue. Venues include Artisan Kitchens & Baths, Sportsmen's Tavern, Max Willig Architect, Black Rock Food Center, Artsphere Gallery, 464 Gallery, Quality Bindery Services, the law office of Jennifer P. Stergion, Rohall's Corner, and Joe's Service Center.
A shuttle will run with stops along Amherst Street, from noon to 5pm. An "Art Yard" at 464 Gallery will feature live art demonstrations, music and an artisan market. A "Kids Zone," food trucks, historical tours by Mark Goldman and an international market sponsored by West Side & Black Rock-Riverside Neighborhood Housing Services will also run from noon to 5pm. A finale party at neighborhood bar Rohall's Corner will feature more local music from 5 to 8pm, with a $5 cover.
IndieSound @ Black Rock is presented by Buffalo First (www.buffalofirst.org) and The Good Neighborhood (www.thegoodneighborhood.com) in association with the Grant-Amherst Business Association. The event's mission is to help residents of Buffalo and Western New York find and connect with locally owned businesses and independent local artists. By connecting indie-conscious people with local businesses, the festival works to strengthen the health of Main Street ecosystems across the region.
The festival's inaugural year featured live musical performances from over forty local musicians in independent businesses bringing several hundred people to the historic Allentown business district.
